Geocoding with Google Maps

When I upload a picture for use in my galleries, I pick what galleries it goes into, give it a caption and descrption, generate and FTP full, thumb and icon for the image.

Right now, my camera does not have GPS tagging (smartphone does...), so I manually geocode all my pictures - Lat, Lon and Altitude.

I use the tool to the right, which allows me to get the geocode coordinates from the map.

The map defaults (here) to Chicago. One can find the exact location for the picture in one of three ways:

• Just zoom in and click on the map.
• Search for a location and work from there.
• Use the "Select starting point" pulldown (below the map) to jump to a location. I keep a database of locations we have, for example, vacationed, so I can jump to a city/location and then scroll around from there.

Would I prefer that my camera had geocoding, so I could just extract the EXIF data? Of course, but you work with what you have. And it was fun working the Map's API.
